Version 4/10/98

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PAD MANAGER DUTIES:

PAD MANAGER: The pad manager's responsibility is to assign rockets to the appropriate launch pads, give the flight cards to the LCO, oversee and assist with the placement of rockets on the pads, and ensure that no rocket is angled in such a way that a recovery system failure would result in an impact point anywhere near the spectator/ parking area.

DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS:

Requirements: The Pad Manager shall be a mature individual, at least 16 years old, and knowledgeable about rocket theory, motors and the high power rocketry safety regulations (NFPA 1127).

Job Description: Assign pads, oversee and assist with rocket installations, check for safe launch angles, double-check for unsafe flights, and monitor launch pad equipment. Keep things moving smoothly.

  1. Collect flight cards, assign each rocket to the appropriate launch pad, and mark the assigned pad number on each card.

  1. Oversee and assist with the placement of the rockets on the assigned pads. In general, keep track of the following: the leads are not switched between the pads, rods are not being bent (to angle the rocket), and the launch angles are safe. Assist individuals who are having trouble with changing rods, attaching leads, loading rockets, etc.

  1. Try to keep things moving smoothly. In general, first come, first launched; but if there are too many rockets for the right pads, try to reorganize things as efficiently as possible, without making people wait more than one full launch cycle.

  1. Give the LCO the completed flight cards, sorted according to pad numbers.

  1. Assist the LCO with crowd control (keep everyone where they belong) and with watching for any unsafe condition: planes, people, cloud base, winds, anything.

  1. After each launch, check for any damage to equipment and clean and repair as needed.
